The idea of planting tracking
chips into children could be a potentially good idea but could also have
negative implications. In my opinion, parents should have the right to
implant tracking chips into young children but there needs to be an age where
this chip needs to be disabled. For example, if a toddler were to be kidnapped,
a tracking chip could be extremely useful in helping to locate the child.
However, at a certain point, this tracking chip starts to become an invasion of
privacy. When a child becomes a teenager, the parent should no longer have
access to their child’s exact whereabouts.
If there were to be a bill passed
that required children under the age of 5 to have a tracking chip, I would
support it. However, I would only support it if this chip could no longer be
used after a reasonable age. Tracking devices could also be useful for those
with Alzeimers. However, in order to preserve this person’s rights, I believe
that they would have to agree to be tracked. GPS shoes could be a convenient alternative
to a chip since these can be removed whenever desired. The topic of tracking
can be a sensitive one regarding the issue of privacy. Depending on the situation,
such as keeping an eye on children, tracking people can be a good thing. However,
in the situations where there is an invasion of privacy, tracking can be
harmful. Overall, tracking chips could become an immense risk if the wrong
person discovered this information. On the other hand, this information can be
extremely useful if used appropriately. This idea needs to be thoroughly
thought over before anything permanent is done.
I agree when you say that there should be an age cut off when it comes to how old a person should have a chip in them. When you're younger, you don't know any better, and parents are often concerned about their child's whereabouts, which is understandable. Parents are only trying to do what is best for their child, and until that child is older, I don't see a problem with the chip idea. When the person grows to be a teenager, they should have the choice as to whether or not they want the chip because it is an invasion of privacy. I agree that is needs to be though over before anything permanent is done.
ReplyDeleteI do agree with you that tracking chips could become a risk if the wrong person discovered it. But I don't agree with you on the fact that it is alright for children under the age of 5 to have the chip implanted. I think that even though the chip must be disabled after they reach a certain age, the government probably has ways of reactivating it even without the child's consent or them knowing which could be very harmful to society in the long run.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you for the most part. I never thought about the fact that the chip could be discovered by the wrong person having access to the whereabouts of the child, so that should definitely be regulated in a way that would protect the child but still help the parents. There should be rules and regulations to this and I cannot say for certain whether it is a good idea, but it could be very useful. We would definitely need to weigh the pros and cons of the situation, but the idea itself seems legitimate, given that rules were followed.
